Improving The Standard of Nursing Practice in Africa

IMPROVING THE STANDARD OF NURSING PRACTICE IN AFRICA

Nigeria is currently the most populated country in Africa with well over 200 million people. Nigeria falls well below the critical threshold of nurse population of 23 nurses per 10,000 population.

Nurses are our heroes

Nurses are our frontline workers. They provide 24-hour care and experience prolonged and direct contact and engagement with both the patient and their family.

African nurses experience a lot of job dissatisfaction which is associated with their working conditions, hospital environment, and lack of adequate training.

According to the World Health Organization if the current trends of health workforce recruitment and retention in Africa continues it will be significantly insufficient to tackle the health needs of the population by the year 2030.

IMO has helped in this area by providing Nursing Workshops/Training to improve the nurse’s skills. This is why we are excited and committed to providing Nursing Workshops/Education to improve the Standard of Nursing Practices in Africa.

We salute all the dedicated doctors and nurses across the continent of Africa who are working 24 hours in unsatisfactory working conditions in healthcare facilities. You are our heroes.

This workshop has been like a ray of light in a tunnel. It is so refreshing when you come into class and see the smile on the faces of the IMO team members. I am so glad I attended this workshop. I would be very sad if I had missed it. I would love to attend every year. The hands-on experience of the workshop is so helpful. Most nurses have only classroom and theoretical education. Very limited, if any, hands-on experiences.

After the first day I attended the workshop, I called some of my friends and coworkers to share with them my notes and to teach them some of the new methods and procedures I had learned.

I have attended many seminars, workshops and paid a lot of money to participate. It blows my mind that IMO is offering this workshop for free. In addition to learning so many new procedures and having lots of fun, I’ve made many new friends. It is my wish that some of my friends and colleagues will have access to this training. Then we can deliver quality care to our patients. Nurses are the heart of the health care system. Therefore, it is of the essence that we receive continuous and updated education and procedures.

When a friend of mine sent me the information about the IMO Nurses Workshop I didn’t believe it because it was free. Seminars like this are usually not offered for free. Even after I was accepted to attend the workshop I was still very skeptical about it until I came to the venue. I found the workshop impactful and educational. I wish we could get more nurses to attend the training. I saw many practices I have been doing incorrectly. This is why nurses should attend the IMO Nursing/Workshop training.
There are so many practices we’ve been taking for granted in the clinical setting. Sometimes we overlook it but we don’t know some of those practices are probably the cause of complications in the future. At least now I will take them more seriously.

I am a pediatric nurse. The training has been interesting and fascinating. Moving forward, I will be doing some of my practices differently. I learned to treat my patients with respect and compassion. I have gained more confidence and will go out of my way to serve. I will put myself in the shoes of my patients and their families.
I will definitely pass on the knowledge and skills I have learned in this training/workshop. I work in a teaching hospital and I constantly have students around me. The workshop is not just teaching theories but you are learning exceptional hands-on skills. You get to touch and practice it. The teachers are very patient. They listen to your questions and answer them. They come around and ask, “Are you okay”? Everyone gets the opportunity for a hands-on experience. This is one of its kind. Before, I had never experienced anything like it. I want to say a very, very, big and massive, Thank You to IMO Missions.

I want to use this medium to say thank you to IMO for giving us the best, most efficiently delivered, world-class nursing training I have experienced totally free. Thank you for making the expensive dream of skill acquisition and improvement free for our nurses, thank you for contributing to the quality of the delivery of nursing care in our institutions and we want to say thank you for contributing to the health and wellbeing of every Nigerian that will be cared for by these nurses.
